The CAN Candidates Fair + Forums is this Sunday (April 27), 1:30-5:30pm, at the Thalia N. Carlos Hellenic Community Center, 2500 Clairmont Rd, Atlanta 30329.

THE FAIR:  Wander among candidates grouped by office-sought.  Pick up their literature; get a sense of the candidates.  Find out who's expected at

THE FORUMS:  Two panel discussions are planned for the other end of the ballroom from the Fair:
  • 1:45pm.   COUNTY GOVERNANCE, featuring current and former commissioners, moderated by Commissioner Kathie Gannon.
  • 3:00pm.   THE FUTURE OF CITYHOOD IN DEKALB, featuring local speakers, some who think cityhood is essential, others who are not so sure.

Lobby Tables available at Fair+Forums

 limited number of tables in the lobby of the Fair+Forums are available for issue-oriented non-profit organizations who serve some of our target audience.  These tables are priced at $15 plus an agreement to publicize the event.  Contact for more info.  Cutoff date: approximately 4/20.  First come, first served.

The Civic Association Network (CAN)—a loose coalition of civic associations in central DeKalb County—is hosting a CANDIDATES FAIR + FORUMS on Sunday, April 27, 1:30 - 5:30 pm, at the Thalia N. Carlos Hellenic Community Center, 2500 Clairmont Road, Atlanta, GA 30329.  Join us for this informative afternoon with candidates and other issue leaders!  With more than 40 special, partisan and non-partisan races and more than 100 candidates on the ballot for May 20, as well as the numerous important issues that are affecting DeKalb County’s future, it’s important for all residents to weigh in.  More info about this event and the upcoming elections is available on the CAN website ( along with a poll on Questions The Candidates Should be Asked.

SAVE THE DATE.   Sunday, April 27, 1:30-5:30 pm.
A group of CAN-participating Civic Associations will sponsor a Candidates Fair+Forums at the Hellenic Community Center on Clairmont Road.  This event will EXPAND on the Candidates Fair format of previous years, offering both a large Candidates Fair (meet-n-greet) AND a series of Issue Forums.  More details will be released later.  All candidates whose names will appear on May 20th ballots in the CAN area should hear from the event planning committee by mid-March.

 CEO Award 2012

CAN, the Civic Association Network, has been awarded a DeKalb County CEO's Community Hero Award in the category of Neighborhood Empowerment.  The award was presented at a ceremony at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, on Sunday, April 29, 2012, with CAN represented by Ted Daniel, Beth Nathan, Jim Smith and Nikki VanDerGrinten.  We hope to post in the near future a photo from the ceremony and maybe the video about CAN made by DCTV.
